Book Review: Must've Done Something Good by Cheryl Cory

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

A few months ago I won the book Must've Done Something Good by Cheryl Cory through Goodreads First Reads program. I received a message from Cheryl just after I won and she asked if I would review the book. Remember that total lack of time management skills? yeah... I'm finally getting that review written.

Official synopsis from Goodreads:

Sylvie O'Rourke, "The Sound of Music" devotee and born procrastinator, is about to die. Well, she thinks she is, anyway, and so attempts a last-ditch bargain with God for her life."You guys are my witnesses," she tells her sisters somewhere over Connecticut. "If we get out of this plane alive, I promise to do something good with my life."Back on firm ground, Kate and Meg won't let their sister forget her promise, and with their years of practice hitting just the right chords of guilt ("What kind of person lies to God?" Meg wants to know), Sylvie finally caves.A teaching position at the broken-down St. Matthew's High School appears to be Sylvie's perfect opportunity to do some good. That is, until she's snubbed by a fellow teacher on the first day of school.Whether she's becoming a bit too invested in the students' fall fundraiser or directing the school's sure-fire musical disaster, Sylvie's charmingly irreverent style gets her called down to the principal more often than her students. Can Sylvie keep her promise and make it through the year, dignity and sanity intact?

This book sat in my closet or on my desk from the longest time before I finally got to reading it. As usual, WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS?  This book is literally so much fun.

Sylvie is funny and witty and she loves The Sound Of Music. Really what more could you ask for in a character?

I loved the story. So much. Sylvie and the kids starting off rough and slowly learning to get along and learning how they think and learning to work together is really cool to watch(read?). I spent the whole book begging her in my head to keep teaching and not quit after a year. Did she do that? Well, read the book.

There is a love story in here as well and aslkdfasdlkja. Sylvie becomes friends with one guy and is irritated with another and they both work at the school with her. One of the guys really made me want to yell "OHMYGOSH GO AWAY" and the other made me squeal because CUTENESS. They also switched places in those roles a few times. About half way or a little bit after that I kind of figured out who the go away character was.

Sylvie's sisters, Kate and Meg, are also really fun characters. Like I said, they love The Sound Of Music, what more could you as for? You kind of get a peek into their lives as far as school and work and boyfriends. They help Sylvie with school stuff and love life stuff and they are great sisters and characters.

The writing is really good. Cheryl nailed the witty writing and I just love her style.

The second book in the series is called We Have Confidence! and I can't wait to read it!
