Fiction Friday: Still Alice by Lisa Genova

Friday, July 4, 2014

From now on Fridays here on A Lottle Bit of Pink will be known as "Fiction Fridays." I will be reviewing and talking about books and movies.

This first book on the list is Still Alice by Lisa Genova

Still Alice is about a Harvard Psychology professor who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. The story follows Alice from just before her diagnoses when she is still traveling to conferences to speak and teaching to not being able to name or recognize her own children.

This book was a really personal read for me because my paternal grandfather had Alzheimer's and I watched his progression as he lost more and more of himself. It's hard to read and it's even harder to watch.

I was captivated by this book. I fell in love with the characters, each and every one of them, and felt for them and what they were going through. I cried. A lot. I wasn't expecting to, but I did. When Alice introduces herself to someone she just met a few minutes before, when she doesn't recognize her youngest daughter, and when she gets lost in her own home. I cried.

I will honestly never forget this book. It touched me in so many ways.
 I recommend it to everyone.

I would love some suggestions of books to read so please leave some in the comments!
